This is me and my story

Just going to give a little background of myself. My name is Sarah. I am a senior at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, CT. I am finishing off my last undergraduate semester and I am hoping to complete a 5k before I graduate in May.

I have been an athlete all of my life. I have played baseball, softball, roller hockey and even dancing. But soccer was always my #1 sport. I was goalkeeper for my high school soccer team (I played backup most of the time) and I have played the position for most of my life. I loved the position because I was always the first line of offense and last line of defense. Being a goalkeeper also meant that I had to be a leader on the field which was something that I quietly took pride in.

Another reason why I loved the position was that I didn't have to RUN! I absolutely hated running! Of course us goalkeepers had to do a little bit of running which consisted of sprinting/running for a short period of time and distance. But I (along with the other goalkeepers on my team) was usually able to skip out of the running/sprinting drills because of goalkeeper training/practice (which was great in my opinion).

But that was over 4 years ago and now I don't really have any consistent form of exercise. I am not on a sports team so there is no routine or practice that I have to go to. My friends and I do play intramural soccer and volleyball but we don't practice for it and it is not enough to keep in shape. And I do miss being in shape and not being out of breathe when I go up a few flights of stairs. So this 5k thing crossed my mind along with my suite-mate. We thought it would be a good idea to complete one before we leave Quinnipiac for real life and graduate school. And who knows, I actually might start to like running after running/training for the 5k.

We do not know what 5k we want to run yet. There are so many and we still have some time to figure it out. Our school usually has a 5k in the spring so we are most likely to complete that one but we do not know the date of it yet. If we do not get a 5k race, I was thinking of making up my own 5k and completing it. There are many trails around our school so we can definitely make our own 5k race if need be.

I will blog about the actual training, how I feel during training days, obstacles that will come by and probably other things as well.

I am hoping to start running tomorrow. I am getting over a cold so I don't know if I should run in the morning. But I will if I feel up to it.

I will post my planned training schedule soon.
